Literacy Specialist at Muskingum County Library System
Education professional with a BSEd focused in Early Childhood Education from Ohio University. Passionate about youth and adult literacy, with a demonstrated history of working in the libraries and K-12 industry. Skilled in classroom management, lesson planning, educational technology, and curriculum development.
Developed a partnership between the Muskingum County Library System and the Zanesville City Schools to:
Led instruction in developmental reading and study skills for non-traditional students, including parents, recent high school graduates requiring intervention, and those returning to college after years away from the classroom.
Managed and led instruction in a small, self-contained classroom of 6 third-grade students with special needs, as a trial program for an alternative school. Helped transition into a new school year, adding 30+ students to the program and 2 additional classroom teachers. Worked under the guidelines of Ohio's Third Grade Reading Guarantee to identify students requiring intervention in reading and to implement necessary instruction to address those reading deficits.
Collaborated with faculty to teach a freshman orientation course. Proofed students' writing assignments and provided them with constructive feedback about the process of writing for college courses. Met with students to plan for the rest of their freshman year.
Linked for Literacy is the "umbrella" under which several projects in the Muskingum County Library System live. It is focused on providing services and resources to teachers and students through a partnership with the Zanesville City School District. Linked for Literacy and the Muskingum County Library System was awarded $100k+ in grant funding in 2015 from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation. Through this funding, the library implemented three main projects, the largest of which supplied an entire 5th grade class with iPads and access to an ebook delivery platform known as LightSail.
