Launched in early 2010, Canal Guimarães was an ambitious independent project, with a very brief existence. An example of the vulnerability of journalism in the digital age, this privately owned local news channel shuttered in mid-2011.

As a reporter there my duties included:

• Investigating, pitching and preparing stories
• Covering scheduled events such as press conferences and town hall meetings
• Preparing and conducting both on-scene and studio interviews
• Writing scripts, producing news pieces and providing voice-overs
• Helping with the news video editing

Jornal de Notícias (JN), founded in 1888, is one of the most important newspapers in Portugal and the second best-selling daily paper in the country. In 2008, I was an intern at the "Grande Porto" section, reporting and writing news articles for the print edition. My duties included:

• Researching articles and documents
• Reading press releases
• Interviewing sources
• Attending conferences and other events
• Fact-checking
• Writing news articles
