Mary Kara Bucci, MD, is an Albuquerque-based radiation oncologist with the MD Anderson/Presbyterian Health System. In addition, Dr. Mary Kara Bucci serves as an assistant professor at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Named one of America's Top Oncologists in 2009, 2011, and 2012, she previously spent five years in Alaska, where she worked for Anchorage & Valley Radiation Therapy Centers and Anchorage Associates in Radiation Medicine.
Board certified in 2003 and 2013, Dr. Bucci also has worked in New York, Texas, and California. A former member of numerous institutional steering and research committees, she held teaching posts at the University of California, San Francisco before taking on her current positions.
Beyond her experience teaching and practicing oncology, Dr. Bucci has collaborated on protocols specific to thoracic radiotherapy. She also has served as co-principal investigator for a study testing the relationship of a radiation pneumonitis imaging biomarker and its clinical endpoints.
She earned a bachelor's degree in biomedical sciences from the University of Michigan in 1995 and a doctor of medicine from the university’s medical school in 1998.
