I've been fortunate over the last six years to take part in a wide range of community-based projects that have focused on advocacy, empowerment, and producing measurable outcomes. Working with a variety of community partners that has included private, public, and governmental organizations, I've helped develop and successfully execute strategies for projects as varied as--increasing energy inefficiency in low-income communities; researching and planning for the evaluation of county-wide community health goals; partnering with state and local governments to gather data for the development of a publicly accessible economic index of the East Tennessee region; analyzing local assets for the development of workforce training opportunities for the homeless, etc. Currently, I am the Project Manager for CodeTN, a project I helped create and launch in 2014 with the gracious help of The Great Schools Partnership education foundation. We want Tennessee to become the go-to state for talent recruitment in the field of software design and computer science. Our goals are to help create strong relationships between school districts and local businesses, increase access to high-quality computer science education for students, provide teachers with strong training, and make sure that 100 percent of our students have the opportunity to learn computer programming in school. In our third year with 14 schools and over 125 students annually participating, we're well on our way to making Knoxville the leader in secondary computer science training. No matter the project or problem, design thinking and the cultivation of an entrepreneurial mindset, are assets I look to bring to the work that I do within and beyond the social sector.
