The C-TAP authority is an independent organization responsible for creating and maintaining an open market for the use of the C-TAP protocol. A key responsibility will be to guarantee interoperability of terminals and acquiring processors. In that context it will take care of the common tasks related to C-TAP, including licensing of acquiring processors, the issuance of terminal certificates and the evolution of the protocol in line with market demands in terms of functionality and security. The C-TAP authority will fulfil an important role in an international, and more specifically SEPA, context.
