  • Lead solution architect on Shell’s global SalesForce.com deployment for 2,500 account managers and support teams globally, integrating with Shell’s on-premise SAP, product catalogue, currency management and BWs.
  • Incorporated Liaison’s SaaS integration and OCR platform to the Shell IT ecosystem, allowing retirement of legacy on-premise integration middleware.
  • Designed tooling to automate the processing of in excess of 500k paper, email and fax documents, reducing manual work (FTE) by up to 50%. Designed the solution to integrate the end to end supply chain of 500 distributors globally, reducing capital tied up in stock and inventory.
  • SME for use of SalesForce.com in Shell Downstream.
  • Designed solutions using typical cloud technologies - web services, ODATA, RESTful and SOAP APIs, SAML, OAuth etc.

  • Created requirements specification for Shell’s $200M SharePoint 2010 implementation by T-Systems.
  • Assured successful technical implementation, including the architecture of 10+ farms in 6 countries, used by in excess of 150,000 users with a design load of nearly 200TB of data, as well as the Microsoft BPOS/O365 cloud SharePoint service.
  • Built and managed team of high performing Solution Architects to supervise the development of solution architectures covering a programme and service budget exceeding $250 million over five years.
  • Identified cost savings of around $7M year through architectural changes that can be executed during SharePoint upgrades.
  • Made available the first IaaS and PaaS cloud platforms in Shell through creation and strategic direction of a new Cloud Centre of Excellence to introduce Amazon’s AWS and Microsoft’s Azure products.
  • Reduced cost of Shell’s developer work stations by $3.3M per year by creating new virtual developer workstation service based on Amazon AWS cloud platform.
  • Identified savings in excess of $5M per year through a new centralised SSRS service offering.
  • Produced target architecture for Shell’s BizTalk and SSIS EAI/IEI/ETL landscape, a business critical service enabling transactions in excess of $1BN per year.
  • Increased service levels and reduced operational issues by driving the switch of suppliers for Shell’s integration services platform.
  • Reduced time to production by 30% and delivered saving in development costs of around $1M per year by steering the creation of a Workflow Centre of Excellence and overseeing technical strategy.
  • Reduced outages caused by custom code on shared K2 and SharePoint platforms by conceiving of and developing a best-in-class enterprise framework for SharePoint application development standards, introducing mandatory test standards, and increasing standards compliance and enforcement.

End Point Security Project Lead

Managed delivery team of four people in Malaysia to deliver complex firewall and host integrity software to 140,000 client and 10,000 server end-points at over 1000 sites in 150 countries. Lead a technical team of three through designing, developing and deploying solution over a 14 month period.

  • Maintained team morale and motivation, ensuring that the team remained in place throughout the rollout, in the face of significant and repeated technical problems with the vendor’s solution.

Identified business, IT, supplier, LTO and staff requirements for providing full IT infrastructure and international telecoms on Shell owned and third party contracted exploration rigs anywhere in the world.

  • Avoided costly rig deployment delays by reducing end to end delivery time from several weeks to under 3 days, allowing Shell to deploy IT equipment before the rest of the rig fit out is completed.
  • Successfully negotiated third parties suppliers and customers business process changes to improve efficiency in connecting to Shell rigs from their side

Technical Project Lead and Policy/Process Consultant

Budapest, Hungary August 2005 - May 2006

Performed dual Technical Project Lead and Policy/Process Consultant role on Shell Downstream businesses' ISO27001 IT security and process audit. Managed the work of technical teams, performing customer engagement and solution architecture and validation.

  • Significantly reducing travel budgets by developing novel process to telephone pre-audit inspections to assist local sites with readying themselves for audits, removing the need to travel to local sites for preparation.
  • Achieved one of the highest first time pass rates of any technical team.

  • Provided process recording, documentation and enhancement for Order to Cash and other Marketing, Sales and Logistics processes for processes in use in the European and Asia Pacific regions, ensuring that they were compliant with the company’s Sarbanes-Oxley requirements
  • Responsible for delivering face to face staff training and communications for 3 sites in Asia Pacific

Syngenta (Basel, Switzerland)

  • Developed IT and data control change management process, consolidating the requirements from Business, Information Services and third party Service Providers, and aligned them with the company’s Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance plan.
  • Created Helpdesk (ITIL Request for Service, incident and problem), Change Request and Release Management procedures, identifying key process owners, accountable parties and other stakeholders at each stage

Multinational Swiss Company (Switzerland)

  • Facing increasing demands from a global workplace, the client implemented SharePoint, however, it discovered that users were not making full use of the tools
  • Worked with the project team to develop an attitude questionnaire which was distributed electronically to several thousand users. From the results of this we identified perceived and shortcomings with the tools offered and developed a communications strategy to overcome misunderstandings and show that we were working on the actual problems

With end to end delivery responsibility for a number of key service projects, I delivered commoditised end-to-end services to extend Shell’s IT service offerings.

  • Coordinated work teams in three time zones to ensure project delivery deadlines were met.
  • Executed requirements management and validation, use case modelling, generation of mock-ups, functional specifications and usability testing

Technical Project Lead and Technical Architect in a global project to upgrade Shell’s desktop environment with over 100,000 desktops and 2500 servers.

  • Travelled to in the Far East, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East trouble-shooting highly complex technical issues which had previously evaded resolution. Identified inherent and design flaws in the service and designed technical solutions.
  • Designed tools and services still used globally to standardise and maintain service.
  • Wrote a large amount of the end user documentation for the service, explaining complex IT issues in simple “end user” language
