    Account Executive (VIP)

    Automattic
    Worldwide

The Account Executive role is responsible for building and managing a funnel of qualified enterprise customers, and materially contributing to the continued growth of both VIP and WordPress in the enterprise space.

Your style is to listen and learn from prospects, positioning VIP as the best Content Management System (CMS) and Digital Experience Platform (DXP) for the Global 2000. You don’t sit and wait for leads to come to you. Instead you think through the opportunity within specific verticals, and create an approach to growing WordPress and VIP within these verticals. This includes working with a Sales Development Representative (SDR) on targeted outreach including email, phone, and events, responding quickly and effectively to inbound leads, working with our Marketing team to align our messaging and ads to the right people and places, and getting things done in an autonomous and dependable fashion.

You view enterprise customers and their messages as important parts of the web, and you view VIP and WordPress as the best partner to come alongside those efforts. You pride yourself in establishing long-term relationships and doing what’s best for the customer. You enjoy telling stories, doing demos, giving “the pitch,” and are comfortable with everyone from engineers to I.T. to content creators.

    In addition, you are:

    • An amazing communicator; you should be great at holding people’s attention whether via email, presenting, chatting on the phone, or meeting in person.
    • Comfortable when it comes to selling, understanding how to build and manage a funnel, reach the right people, execute solutions-based selling, and close deals.
    • Comfortable working with executive-level prospects, negotiating terms, and reviewing contracts.
    • Able to listen to the needs of publishers and use that information to inform our product roadmap.
    • Driven to achieve growth targets, both as an individual and company.

This role requires you to have a deep understanding of the technology and platforms that we run, and to be able to communicate with engineers effectively. Moderate travel is required as well.

We’re serious about growing diversity in the tech industry. We want to build Automattic as an environment where people love their work and show respect and empathy to those with whom we interact. Diversity typically includes, but is not limited to, differences in race, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, political and religious affiliation, socio-economic background, cultural background, geographic location, physical disabilities and abilities, relationship status, veteran status, and age. To work on diversity means that we welcome these differences, and strive to increase the visibility of traditionally underrepresented groups.

    Technical Account Manager

    Automattic
    Worldwide

Automattic’s mission is to democratize publishing and commerce so that anyone, anywhere can tell their story or sell their product. As a TAM for WordPress VIP, you will help drive our customers’ adoption of our products by managing and understanding our clients and partners from discovery, through launch, and beyond.

Our TAMs are the "voice of the customer" and our operational client contacts with high touch engagements. They understand their clients' business demands, operational needs, and technical challenges to help them achieve the greatest value from Automattic products. Your technical acumen and customer-facing skills will enable you to effectively represent Automattic while driving client decisions regarding technical and product strategy, incidents, trade-offs and risk management. Working closely with engineering, you will provide advocacy and strategic technical guidance to help plan and build solutions using standard methodologies.

Software development and architecture experience will help you succeed, however, coding is not in scope for this position. Some moderate travel is required – expect quarterly as a baseline.

You are motivated by impact, whether that’s achieved by rapid deployment of bespoke, high-profile sites, helping newsrooms take control of their online publishing, or working with some of the most influential companies in the world and helping them get the most out of WordPress and our VIP program.

Your style is to get things done while reducing friction for your colleagues and clients, to respond rapidly when called upon, as well as being proactive. You view our clients as partners, not just customers, and pride yourself in establishing long-term relationships. You enjoy managing projects and timelines and working with everyone from engineers to GMs and VPs of Sales.

    In addition, you are:

    • Comfortable with a high volume of communication and switching tasks at a moment’s notice.
    • Quick to solve problems that pop up, and collaborate with developers.
    • Accomplished at distilling goals and wish-lists into concrete next steps.
    • Skilled in conflict management and resolution.
    • Undaunted by managing risks in high stakes situations.
    • Excited by kick-off calls and getting everyone on the same page.
    • Experienced in working with WordPress or other web technologies.

Automattic is a distributed company where staff choose their own schedules and work from wherever they are. For this role, however, we’re expanding our team in North & South America. We’re prioritizing applicants interested in a daytime work schedule and residing within time zones UTC-3 through UTC-7.

    Benefits

    • Open vacation policy (no set number of days per year). We encourage all employees to take the time they need for vacation, to pursue their own interests, to stay healthy, and to spend time with friends and family.
    • Home office setup and coworking allowances. Working from a coffee shop? You can use your coworking allowance for the requisite latte!
    • We happily provide or reimburse hardware and software you’ll need, as well as books or conferences that promote continued learning.
    • Company-sponsored life insurance.
    • Open parental leave (includes maternity, paternity, and adoption). If you’ve been with Automattic for 12 months, your leave is fully paid.
    • WordPress-branded laptop at your four-year anniversary. A spiffy set of wireless headphones at your seven-year anniversary.
    • Paid two to three-month sabbatical encouraged every five years.
    • We cover all costs of company travel, so dust off that passport! Your team will get together one to three times per year in locations around the globe. Note: All company travel is currently suspended due to COVID-19.
    • Other benefits are country-specific, and include health, vision, and dental insurance; matching retirement/pension contributions; childcare vouchers; income protection; travel insurance; and discount offers.

    Diversity & Inclusion

We’re serious about growing diversity in the tech industry. We want to build Automattic as an environment where people love their work and show respect and empathy to those with whom we interact. Diversity typically includes, but is not limited to, differences in race, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, political and religious affiliation, socioeconomic background, cultural background, geographic location, physical disabilities and abilities, relationship status, veteran status, and age. To work on diversity means that we welcome these differences, and strive to increase the visibility of traditionally underrepresented groups. Read more about our commitment to diversity and inclusion.

This is a full-time, salaried, remote role. When you’re ready to apply, please fill out the form below. In your cover letter, please include the following:

    • Tell us what you can contribute to the team!
    • Let us know about your experience with WordPress.
    • Describe how you stay organized managing multiple fast-paced projects.

    Senior Software Engineer

    Automattic
    Worldwide

WordPress doesn’t try to keep its users inside walled gardens, a rare thing in a world that is dangerously moving away from the open web. Instead, WordPress gives them the freedom to build a business website, an online store, or a personal blog – the way they like it. Big sites or small, using the community-run open source project or Automattic’s WordPress.com, vanilla or customised with hundreds of plugins, WordPress users always get to own and control their data, their expression, and their freedom.

What have we worked on recently?

    • Gutenberg is a new block-level editor with clean abstractions for users, too, not just developers.
    • Jetpack is a plugin that brings cloud-scale features to self-hosted sites and our latest addition is Rewind, think git for WordPress sites.
    • WooCommerce is the most popular e-commerce platform on the web.
    • To view more of our recent work, check out our longer product list on Automattic.com.

    How do we work?

    • We’re kind to each other and our users – we strive to build a positive, supportive, and inclusive culture of cohesive teams focused on delivering value to our customers.
    • We work as a global and distributed workforce resulting in a unique way of working built around our creed
    • We offer flexible work arrangements allowing our team members to work when they feel best.
    • We open-source! We’re cool with open-sourcing everything except passwords, or secret keys.
    • We ship often, deploying many times daily with the help of peer code review, continuous integration, and our global workforce in over 70 countries.
    • We welcome collaboration, and you can be involved in any discussion across our many communication channels.

Enough about us, let‘s talk more about you. The Software Engineer position might be a good fit if you:

    • Have production experience with several programming languages. We mostly use PHP and JavaScript at Automattic – you should either be familiar with them already or the idea of using them on a daily basis should not be a blocker for you.
    • Have experience working on a large-scale system. Making it faster, more scalable, and fault-tolerant.
    • Know about systems architecture.
    • Are highly collaborative and you love participating in code reviews and discussions about architecture, or design.
    • Are passionate about and experienced in software development; in particular, advanced PHP knowledge is a plus.
    • Are knowledgeable about design patterns and testability; having experience with testing frameworks, performance testing and unit testing is very welcome.
    • Are thoughtful about product design, with good user experience instincts.
    • Are open and able to travel 3-4 weeks per year to meet up with your teammates in person.

    Extra credit:

    • WordPress programming experience.
    • Open source contributions or contributions to programs designed to help underrepresented people enter the tech field.
    • Experience working on accessibility.
    • Familiarity with JavaScript.
    • Data analysis experience, and understanding of how analytics can help with product decisions.
    • Knowledge of tooling and build systems.

Speaking of interests and skills, here are some areas in which you can grow and have further impact in the future at the company:

    • Leadership – we offer a variety of leadership options to those who have interest, including becoming a team lead and managing releases.
    • Learning and development – we have a generous personal development budget and encourage you to grow your skills through courses, books and conferences.
    • Architecture – we encourage developers to develop expertise in the systems they work with, guide their evolution and mentor other developers working on them.
    • Engineering effectiveness – we believe in helping other developers become more effective through tools, practices, cross-team collaborations, and process improvements.

These are exciting times at Automattic and you’ll have a unique opportunity to shape the future of our products. Join us! We look forward to hearing from you.

    Matrix.org/WordPress Integrations Engineer

    Automattic
    Worldwide

One thing WordPress and Matrix.org have in common is a strong, abiding belief in the open web, a rare thing in a world that is dangerously moving towards walled gardens. Instead, both projects give users the freedom to build a website or to communicate on their own terms. No matter what the goal, or whether one uses the hosted versions like WordPress.com/modular.im or hosts their own versions, users always own and control their data.

We’re incredibly happy that Automattic is investing in New Vector (the company behind Matrix.org) and that we're supporting this truly open ecosystem of communication tools.

We’ll need help, though. We’re looking for a developer to bridge the two software worlds – the one of WordPress and of Matrix.org.

The opportunities for cross-pollination are endless and may include building open-source plugins for either platform, enabling real-time chat and collaboration for business websites, blogs, e-commerce stores, or communities, integration of existing infrastructure.

Enough about us, let‘s talk more about you. This position might be a good fit if you:

    • Care about open protocols, open communication, data ownership, and the open web.
    • Can work with a loose direction – product design and good experience instincts will be especially helpful in this integration position.
    • Have production experience with several programming languages. PHP and JavaScript will be useful for most integrations, though you may need to quickly learn and adapt for a variety of environments. There are Matrix servers and clients written in Python, Go, JavaScript, Java, Cotlin, Objective-C, Swift.
    • Know about systems architecture.
    • Are highly collaborative and you love participating in code reviews and discussions about architecture, or design.
    • Are open and able to travel 3-4 weeks per year to meet up with your teammates in person.

    Extra credit:

    • Experience with real-time platforms (whether Matrix.org or others).
    • Experience with decentralized systems and platforms.
    • WordPress or Matrix programming experience.
    • Open source contributions or contributions to programs designed to help underrepresented people enter the tech field.
    • Data analysis experience, and understanding of how analytics can help with product decisions.
    • Knowledge of tooling and build systems.

Speaking of interests and skills, here are some areas in which you can grow and have further impact in the future at the company:

    • Engineering effectiveness – we believe in helping other developers become more effective through tools, practices, cross-team collaborations, and process improvements.

These are exciting times for the open web and you’ll have a unique opportunity to shape its future. Join us! We look forward to hearing from you.

We are the company behind WordPress.com, WooCommerce, Jetpack, and more! We are looking for a full-stack Data Engineer with a head for business to join our WooCommerce team!

Communication with and empathy for our colleagues is a key part of this job - curiosity about the puzzles they face is a requirement. Data can be unruly: you’ll need to be prepared to face uncertainty and provide your best guess sometimes - your work will be as much about architecting and improving data pipelines as it will be about creating excellent reporting and solving business problems.

As The Data Engineer on our team, you will:

    • Work with business leads, analysts, data scientists and fellow engineers to build data products that empower better decision making.
    • Architect and improve data pipelines using technologies like Hadoop, Hive, Impala, and Airflow.
    • Deeply understand business drivers to craft automated, easy to use reports and data visualizations in our BI tool (we use Looker).
    • Perform exploratory business analysis and deliver clear and actionable written reports.
    • Use your JavaScript, PHP, and SQL skills to understand and improve our data sources.
    • Be constantly raising data quality. That includes auditing sources, documenting issues, driving resolutions together with other teams, and implementing well-documented, performant, and tested improvements.

We are the people behind WordPress.com, Jetpack, and WooCommerce. We're looking for a Senior Analytics Engineer (Pipelines) to join our analytics team. As the data landscape evolves, so do our roles.

As a Senior Analytics Engineer, you will:

    • Make our data available: you’ll work to connect data sources, design database models, and build ETL pipelines via Airflow.
    • Make our data actionable: you’ll prototype and develop powerful Looker models to build smart dashboards that help our product and business teams succeed.
    • Perform ad hoc analyses to better understand customer behavior, needs, and individual test results.
    • Always be raising data quality. That includes auditing sources, documenting issues, driving resolutions together with other teams, and implementing well-documented, performant, and tested transformations.
    • Work together with teams inside and outside our data organization to define clear metrics and meaningful tracking to drive the growth of our business

We'd love to hear from you if:

    • You're proficient in SQL: window functions and CTEs are part of our daily work.
    • You have worked in a Hadoop ecosystem before (in the day to day, we use Impala, Hive, and Spark).
    • You have used a data flow scheduling system like Airflow.
    • You’re familiar with Scala, Java, Python, or PHP.
    • You have experience with data integration, connectors, and related APIs.
    • You have used a business intelligence platform: we use Looker, but other platforms and an ability to learn can go a long way.
    • You have experience working across teams to deliver analytics solutions and are familiar with common metrics of software as a service (SaaS) business.
    • You have excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
    • You're able to communicate clearly with and about data to technical and non-technical partners.
    • You're highly collaborative and experienced in working with business owners, executives, developers, and creatives to discuss data, strategy, and tests.

    Senior PHP Developer

    • We work as a global and distributed workforce resulting in a unique way of working built around our creed.
